The Academic Profession in the Knowledge-Based Society (APIKS) is a groundbreaking international study that delves into the academic profession in over 30 countries. It is significant in the context of the ‘Knowledge-Based Society’ as it fosters a sense of global academic community through a common survey, thereby contributing to the advancement of knowledge and the development of the academic profession. The APIKS dataset, generated from the application of the survey in 2018-2019, includes information from 20 countries, including Argentina, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Kazakhstan, Japan, Korea, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, and Turkey, covers a wide range of topics in international education and the academic profession. The themes of the survey are career and professional situations, general work situations and activities, teaching, research, external activities, governance and management, academic in formative career stages, and personal background.
The APIKS survey offers us the opportunity to examine the academic profession from a wide range of perspectives at higher education institutions, both nationally and internationally. Furthermore, it has yielded a comprehensive range of publications which include national and international studies (Research).
The APIKS community meets twice a year in different countries to share their research regarding the academic profession. In January of 2023, Chile hosted the conference for the first time.
