Pamela Guzmán, Ph.D, Country Team Leader

Pamela Guzmán is currently affiliated with the Office of the Vice Rector for Research and Graduate Studies at Universidad de La Frontera, located in Temuco, Chile. She holds a degree in Mathematical Engineering and a Master’s in Applied Mathematics from the University of Sydney. Additionally, she earned both a Master’s and a Ph.D. in Education from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Her current research focuses on analyzing the impact of inclusive higher education policies aimed at supporting disadvantaged students, as well as exploring issues related to the academic profession. Moreover, she possesses experience in higher education analysis, accreditation processes, and administrative management. 

Daniela Véliz, Ph.D

Daniela Véliz is an Associate Professor and Vice-Dean of the School of Education at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education from the University of Maine and a Masters in Student Development in Higher Education from the same university. Her research areas are related to higher education, specifically with the academic profession, internationalization, and student development. She is a researcher of the Millennium Nucleus “Experiences of Students in Higher Education” and an associate researcher of the Center for the Study of Policies and Practices in Education CEPPE-UC. She is one of the founders of the Network of Researchers in Chilean Education – RIECH (www.riech.cl).

Paulina Berríos, Ph.D

Paulina Berrios serves as the institutional research director at the University of Chile. Her areas of interest include Chile’s academic profession, female participation and leadership in academia, quality assurance, and strategic planning for higher education institutions. She is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Faculty Development Directorate at the University of Chile. Paulina has degrees in Sociology, Gender Studies, and Higher Education Policy and Administration. She and her institutional research team are coordinating the data work group for the institutional accreditation process.

Andrés Bernasconi, Ph.D

Andrés Bernasconi is a full professor of Education at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He is interested in higher education policiy, university governance, and the academic profession. In his career, he has served in administration as Academic Vice-President, Vice-President for Research and Graduate Programs, Vice-Dean, and Dean in three universities. He has degrees in Law, Public Policy, and Sociology. He is currently President of Chile’s National Accreditation Commission for Higher Education.

Sergio Celis, Ph.D

Sergio Celis is an Associate Professor in the School of Engineering and Sciences at Universidad de Chile. He conducts research on higher education, with a focus on science and technology. His primary research interests are first-year student experience in science and engineering, academic experience in graduate education, faculty work, and institutional research policy. Currently, Sergio is coordinator editor for the Latin American section of the Journal Educational Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA). He also serves as a university senator. Sergio received his professional degree in industrial engineering at Universidad de Chile and his Ph.D. in higher education at the University of Michigan.

Johana Fuentes

Johana Fuentes is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Universidad Arturo Prat. She holds her degree as a Mathematics Teacher and a Master’s in Mathematics Education from the Universidad de La Frontera. Her areas of interest include Higher Education, specifically focusing on faculty development programs. Johana is pursuing a Ph.D. in Education at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

Carmen Araneda Guirriman

Carmen Araneda Guirriman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Universidad de Tarapacá. Her research centers on the situation of women in academia, with a particular emphasis on gender equity. She leads a research project examining academic careers from a gender perspective, specifically focusing on the mid-career stage. Additionally, her work explores the implementation and effectiveness of gender equity policies in Chilean universities. She holds a degree in Sociology and a postgraduate specialization in Social Research and Development from the Universidad de Concepción, a postgraduate degree in Science and Innovation Management from the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, and a Ph.D. in Education from the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona
